Frequently Asked Questions - Gym
Our indoor gym facilities are now open. The following FAQs form a guide for when we reopen our gyms based on the guidance supplied by UKActive following previous periods of lockdown. They are therefore subject to change, and we will update as soon as new guidance is available.
Do I have to book a slot on the app to use the gym?
No, pre-booking a slot in the gym is not necessary. Gym capacity will be managed by our friendly club teams.
How will I be able to social distance in the gym?
We are setting maximum occupancy limits for our gyms based on their size to ensure you can work out with all the space you need.
We have left a 2m space between our equipment where possible or taken every other piece out of use to ensure there is adequate space between members whilst they work out.
We have also introduced clear signage around the gym to help members to socially distance and our team will always be on hand to help.
How will the equipment be kept clean?
We’ve increased our cleaning schedules and will have at least one team member on the gym floor assigned to cleaning at all times.
We carry out all of our cleaning with a fully viricidal disinfectant cleaner, certified to kill enveloped viruses within 60 seconds.
Disinfectant, disposable paper towels and hand sanitisers are located across each gym area, and we’re asking all members to help keep our gyms safe by sanitising equipment before and after use.
At this point, we are not able to allow towels in the gym, and water fountains will be available for bottle fill only, so please come pre-prepared with a water bottle.
Is all the usual gym equipment be available?
We’re working hard to make the majority of our gym equipment available to use, however, to ensure there is adequate spacing between each piece of equipment and the workout area there may be smaller volumes of equipment available as we have.
The following equipment (that is difficult to clean between each use) has been removed from use until we are safely able to reinstate them: TRX Ropes, TRX Rip Trainers, Gliders, Gripr weighted bags, Battle Ropes, Boxing pads and gloves, fabric cable machine attachments (such as the tricep pull down rope), foam barbell pads.
Boditrax machines are available but members should wipe them down with the provided cleaning spray before and after use.
I am conscious of how I can social distance in the gym, how will I know what to do ?
We want to give you a warm and friendly welcome back to our clubs and make you feel as comfortable as possible to give you the confidence you can to return to our gyms safely.
All clubs have additional team members in the gym. Their focus, as well as welcoming members, is to educate members on our social distancing measures, to manage capacity and to ensure all sanitisation and cleaning tasks are completed.
Are Personal Training sessions available?
Personal Training sessions are available. PTs are required to maintain a suitable social distance from the member throughout the session.
Are changing rooms open?
Yes, changing rooms are open, with showers and toilets in use. We have taken every other locker out of use to allow for social distancing.
Do I need to wear a mask to the gym?
We are closely following government guidelines, and currently you don’t need to wear a mask when using our gym facilities. You are, of course, welcome to do so if you would be more comfortable wearing one.

- We are closely following government guidelines and working with UKActive, and we will amend our procedures in line with any changes to regulations.
- Please do not come to the club if you feel unwell and let us know if you or anyone in your household develop Covid-19 symptoms.
- Help keep yourself safe by wiping down equipment before and after use and washing your hands frequently.
- Do not remove cleaning materials/hand sanitiser from the Club.
- Please bring your own towel, yoga mat and water bottle.
- Please keep social distancing in mind at all times, and leave plenty of space between yourself and other members.
- Download the Harbour Club mobile app - you'll need to use it to book all classes, courts and kids classes.
